During an episode of the Baby, This is Keke Palmer podcast, the host, Keke Palmer, praised Whoopi Goldberg and how “interesting” it is to see her co-host The View. She asked her guest what made her decide to become a part of that show. The 70-year-old replied, “I needed a job. Barbara offered me a job. She said, “We just lost one of the people on the show. Would you consider coming over?’”

The Ghost star explained that at the time she was hosting a radio show, which made it easier for her to switch. She continued that since joining the show in September 2007, she has been “glued to that chair.” When asked what she loves about her work, Goldberg bluntly replied, “The check. I love the check.”

Palmer laughed and said, “I can only imagine what that check is.” But Goldberg quickly responded, “No, no, you can’t. Trust me. You can’t. You would be shocked. As soon as they showed you that check, you’d be like, ‘What the!?’”

Palmer backed Goldberg, stating that she deserved her hefty paycheck because she fearlessly expressed her views without worrying about being attacked or praised. The Sister Act star said she feels lucky because she has a job, while many people do not, and before leaving for work, she sees her family members and expresses her gratitude for her job.

“And I’m okay with what I think I believe. I don’t mind doing that. Even when it irritates people,” Goldberg said. “That’s what the show is. It’s not irritation, necessarily, but it is called The View.”

Fans Are Divided Over Whoopi Goldberg’s Paycheck

Whoopi Goldberg’s comments about her salary left social media users wondering how much she earns. Some fans believed her words to be true, claiming that she hosted major live broadcasts and solo-hosted the Academy Awards on numerous occasions.

A user tweeted, “Whoopi is a LEGEND in my book. Pay her whatever she wants. Also I would love to see her leading in a dramatic crime/mystery series or even horror.” Another user wrote, “She was once one of the highest paid female actors in the world and she has had a long career.”

“The View is a Network daytime talk show. Produced and aired on the network. Syndicated daytime talk shows are produced by a production company, and episodes are sold to individual stations,” a user explained. “That’s where the big money comes. Why Oprah was making 9 figures a year from her show.”

A user said, “I’m sure The View has been a job where the pay is at least consistent, and she gets her Fridays off to chill or work on other projects!” But criticism followed the praises, with some users claiming she was exaggerating about her salary.

A user wrote, “Sure Oscar winner whatever you say.” Another user retorted, “I hate when millionaires who make millions per year downplay it.” A user mentioned, “I keep seeing people saying Whoopi earns 7 or 8 figures. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if she’s earning 6 figures lol.”
