Vera Wang doesn't only care about wedding dresses.
While chatting with PEOPLE at the Fragrance Foundation Awards at the David H. Koch Theater in New York City on Thursday, June 11, the renowned designer, 76, stressed the importance of choosing the right wedding day fragrance.
"I think anything that is really personal, by that I mean maybe it's a scent you've always worn, maybe it's a scent you only chose for your wedding, but it's so memorable that day. And scent is about memory," Wang tells PEOPLE, adding, "It's such an important part, the wedding scent. It really is. And it is a remembrance forever."

It's an increasing trend for brides and grooms to buy specific or even custom-made perfumes and colognes for their nuptials in order to capture the essence of their big day. Because scent is strongly tied to memory and emotion, the fragrance serves as a tangible keepsake and reminder of the wedding celebration.
Wang's namesake brand offers many distinct perfumes and colognes. Of all the fragrances she's ever released, Wang says her LOVE eau de parfum is her favorite.

LOVE is a sweet, feminine amber-floral scent that features an exclusive Queen of the Night (Belle de Nuit) night-blooming flower note. Other notes include mandarin essence, Indian jasmine, and blackcurrant accord for a fruity touch. The perfume bottle is shaped like a diamond engagement ring as a nod to Wang's bridal origins.
"It's my most relevant, I think my latest. I worked six years on the project with Coty, and I think there's a certain universality about the ring and the packaging and the concept of romance and the concept of happiness and the concept of sex," Wang says. "I mean, it's just, it's love in all its forms."

At the Fragrance Foundation Awards, Wang wore her own design, of course. She paired a black cone-shaped bra with a long, low-rise sheer maxiskirt featuring cutout details at the waist. She completed the look with pastel blue over-the-elbow gloves and her signature oversized black sunglasses.
