Timothy Simons told PEOPLE exclusively that he dyed his hair blond "for fun" to attend the 2025 Emmys
The Nobody Wants This writers ended up working the hair color change into the script for season 3 of the hit Netflix series
"There's no way to hide it," Simons said
For Timothy Simons, art is imitating life.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the PaleyFest LA Celebrates Netflix’s Nobody Wants This on Wednesday, April 8, the actor spoke about his platinum blond hair, which he debuted at the 2025 Emmy Awards in September. Simons, 47, explained that he "dyed it for fun" for the awards show — and now it's going to be part of his character Sasha's storyline on season 3 of the hit Netflix series.
"All the writers saw it that night and wrote it into the show," he explained. "We're shooting right now, so there's no way to hide it. They didn't tell me to wear a hat."
"Honestly, I love it," he added of his hair. "I would let it grow all the way out, and it gave me a good excuse to keep it going."

Florido Basallo, the L.A. hairstylist behind Simons' look, previously told GQ that Simons "wanted to switch things up" and decided to "go for it right before the Emmys." Basallo described the vision as “a silver fox” that “fades into some sort of archaic Breaking Bad maverick.”
Elsewhere during his conversation with PEOPLE at PaleyFest, Simons shared his thoughts on what might lie ahead for Sasha and wife Esther (played by Jackie Tohn). In the finale of season 2, Esther tells Sasha that she wants to separate and take some time to find herself. He promises to wait for her.

"It is kind of heartbreaking," Simons said of the situation. "It's not like anybody really did anything wrong. It just wasn't working. And I do think that there is something behind that."

"Sometimes married couples, or people who are just dating, sometimes it's not that we don't love each other, it's just that this isn't working or we need to find out if it really does work," he continued. "But Esther and I got together so young … and from [her] perspective, [she] feels like she's lost herself. That's a pretty common thing that people go through. So yeah, I think the exploration of that [will happen in season 3]."
Addressing those fans who are hoping to see Sasha become romantically involved with Morgan (Justine Lupe), with whom he's developed a close, bantering friendship, Simons said, "I think either way it's cool."
"One thing that I really like about Morgan and Sasha is that they just have similar worlds, very different upbringings, very different families. But I think they just specifically look at the world in a similar fashion," he explained, reflecting on the connection between the two characters. "And I don't think a lot of other people in the world share that worldview as far as men go, as it might be. And so I like that there is a kinship between them. Wherever that goes, I don't know."
Simons previously teased the show's third season, jokingly telling PEOPLE that there was going to be an "entire dance episode" while attending the 31st Annual Critics Choice Awards on Jan. 5.

"There's one episode that is nothing but dance. All I do is dance," he joked.
"No, I think you can just look forward to, as the show goes on, the stories of Justine and Jackie and myself, it kind of gets expanded," he continued. "There's just more time for us to see more of our lives, and I enjoy that."
The first two seasons of Nobody Wants This are now streaming on Netflix.
