LOS ANGELES − "Utter genius" Catherine O'Hara had her moment at the Directors Guild of America Awards on Saturday, Feb. 7.
After winning outstanding directorial achievement in a comedy series for "The Studio" at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg praised the "Home Alone" star, who died Jan. 30 at 71. In her final role, O'Hara played Patty Leigh, a former studio chief and mentor to Rogen's character, Matt Remick, in "The Studio."
"Of course, honestly, there's no one we wish we could thank in person at this moment more than we would love to thank Catherine O'Hara," Rogen said of the Canadian star, causing the crowd to erupt in applause.
"We grew up in Canada, and she was quite literally our idol since we were children," said Goldberg.

Rogen said they idolized O'Hara, starting with the "Home Alone" movies, in which the actress played Kevin McCallister's (Macaulay Culkin) mother.
" 'Home Alone' honestly is the movie that made me want to make movies in a lot of ways," Rogen said. "And I mean, in that movie she's always yelling, ‘Kevin, Kevin,' and on ("The Studio") set, she would always be yelling, 'Evan, Evan!' And every time she did it, we were like, ‘It's like 'Home Alone.' "
But there were even more benefits of getting to know O'Hara.
"The best part of her is she showed that you can be an utter genius and also the nicest person in the entire world," said Goldberg.

Who did Paul Thomas Anderson pay tribute to at the DGA Awards?
Anderson paid tribute to the assistant director Adam Somner, who died in 2024 at 57 from thyroid cancer. Somner's wife, Carmen Ruiz de Huidobro, was in the audience.
"Obviously, we're up here minus one," said Anderson. "A lot of people here know our hero, our man, Adam Somner. He took this work so seriously, and did not take himself seriously at all."
Anderson got emotional speaking of his AD on several projects, including "Licorice Pizza."
"He was the best, the absolute best," said Anderson, pausing. "I'm trying to keep it cool, man. I wish everyone in this room may you be blessed with the relationship I had with him. And if you have one already, hold him close, remind them that you love them."
