The San Francisco 49ers now appear to be out of options with Brandon Aiyuk after the one team that showed interest him have now gone elsewhere.
The Washington Commanders have signed Stefon Diggs after his impressive season with the New England Patriots, with the wide receiver landing with his hometown team. The Commanders had been openly looking to bring in a wide receiver, and were regularly being linked with Aiyuk.
The 49ers star has not played since 2024 after sitting out the entire 2025 season. The team handed Aiyuk a four-year, $120 million deal, before going on to play in just seven games, while not scoring a touchdown and choosing to not show up up to team activities throughout the whole of 2025.

The 49ers have attempted to trade Aiyuk over the past year, with the Commanders said to be in for him due to his relationship with quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Daniels and Aiyuk played in college together at Arizona State, with the two appearing to be interested in reuniting.
However, Aiyuk then began to bizarrely call out Daniels, stating that the quarterback is 'running behind his mother' - who is his agent.

Aiyuk said in an Instagram video: "Boy, I'm a grown-a-- man, boy. You gonna have to stop running behind your mamma and I might believe what you talkin' bout."
This is believed to have seen Daniels and Aiyuk fully fallout, with the Commanders seemingly ending their interest in him and signing Diggs.
The Commanders are now sure to not be interest in trading for Aiyuk, with the 49ers potentially missing out on a draft pick.
For Aiyuk's talent, many would argue that he would be worth a first-round pick.

However, the team may now be forced to cut the receiver and eat the majority of his salary cap - a move which would hurt their Super Bowl chances with their window coming to a close.
The 49ers are one of the older rosters in the league, with Trent Williams, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, Fred Warner, Deebo Samuel and Nick Bosa coming to the end of their prime years - as well as new signing Mike Evans.
San Francisco are likely to cut Aiyuk, who may even struggle to find a team due to his recent antics.
The 49ers signed Evans and brought back Samuel due to Aiyuk being missing in action, appearing to have little interest on playing for San Francisco.
