Ryan Gosling will receive this year's American Cinematheque Award
"Ryan represents everything this honor stands for — an artist of extraordinary range, depth and fearless creative commitment," said Rick Nicita, American Cinematheque Board Chair
The announcement comes on the heels of the success of Project Hail Mary, and just under a year before Gosling returns to space in Star Wars: Starfighter
Ryan Gosling is this year's American Cinematheque Award recipient.
The actor, 45, is set to receive the prestigious honor at the American Cinematheque Awards Gala, to be held Monday, Nov. 2, at the Beverly Hilton. The accolade, which has gone to Michael B. Jordan, Charlize Theron and Scarlett Johansson in years past, celebrates an actor's entire career and artistic contribution to the field.
The news comes on the heels of Gosling's hit film Project Hail Mary, the outer space sci-fi film based on Andy Weir's novel, and nearly one year ahead of the anticipated release of Star Wars: Starfighter, in which Gosling will once again exit the Earth's atmosphere.

"Ryan represents everything this honor stands for — an artist of extraordinary range, depth and fearless creative commitment," said Rick Nicita, American Cinematheque Board Chair, in a statement.
Nicita highlighted the actor's vast repertoire of roles, ranging from his early-career performances in Half Nelson and The Believer to his moving portrayal of Sebastian Wilder in La La Land and his "revelatory, scene-stealing turn" in Barbie.

"Most recently, his stunning lead performance in Project Hail Mary captivated audiences around the world, proving his extraordinary ability to carry a film with grace, wit, and profound emotional power," Nicita continued. "The film's remarkable global box office success and overwhelming critical acclaim stand as a testament to Ryan's singular star power and artistic gifts."
Gosling will be the 40th such recipient of the accolade, following recent honorees Michael B. Jordan, Jessica Chastain, Helen Mirren, Ryan Reynolds, Scarlett Johansson, Spike Lee and Charlize Theron.
News that he'll receive the American Cinematheque Award comes almost a year ahead of the highly anticipated forthcoming Star Wars film, in which Gosling will star. The film, which began filming in December 2025, is "not a prequel, not a sequel, just gives us the Star Wars DNA that we love but with an adventure that's all new," director Shawn Levy previously told PEOPLE.
