The actress will star opposite Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt in the sequel to the beloved 2006 film

Lucy Liu is teasing her involvement in one of 2026's most anticipated movies.
The actress, 57, will star opposite Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt in The Devil Wears Prada 2, a sequel to the beloved 2006 film.
Liu tells PEOPLE in an exclusive interview that her part, which hasn't been revealed publicly or seen in any trailers thus far, could be considered "a mystery role."
"I think that's what's special about it," she continues. "I think everyone's looking forward to it."

The Devil Wears Prada, based on Lauren Weisberger's book of the same name, follows a recent college graduate (Hathaway) who is eager to pursue a career in journalism. She works as a junior assistant for Miranda Priestly (Streep), the editor-in-chief of the fictional high-fashion magazine Runway, as she navigates relationships with her boyfriend (Adrian Grenier) and co-workers, Emily (Blunt) and Nigel (Tucci).
The sequel is set to follow Priestly “as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and as she faces off against Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs,” per Variety.

"It's going to be highly entertaining," Liu tells PEOPLE. "It's going to give you all the things, all the eye candy, and it's going to show that these characters have grown and changed."
"I think that's what people want to see. They want to know 20 years later what's different, because you don't want to get served the same thing," adds the Superfakes star.

Liu — who is working with Pfizer for the company's Every Breakthrough Matters campaign — says she is a "very big fan" of The Devil Wears Prada.
And getting to collaborate with such an iconic and star-studded cast, she tells PEOPLE, was "almost like a reverie."
"Working with Annie and Meryl together in a scene was just amazing," Liu explains, adding that "being plopped into someone else's sequel, as opposed to your own that you're in," was just as exciting.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is in theaters on May 1.
