LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil has announced the breakaway league has agreed terms with an unnamed investor to rescue it from the brink.

O'Neil made the announcement at a press conference at Trump National Bedminster ahead of LIV Golf New York. The league needs to secure new investors by Sep. 1 to avoid the risk of total collapse after the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) withdrew its support.

The PIF had bankrolled the league since it launched in 2022 to the tune of more than $5 billion, but it announced in April that it was giving up on the league to focus on other investments.

Mirror U.S. Sports understands the deal is on track to be finalized around the September deadline.

Reports in recent days claim that some LIV staffers have been informed that their employment will be terminated next month, and that bankruptcy remains a possibility to reduce the burden of creditors as the league tries to rebuild.

“LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the league’s next era, driven by and for the players," the league said in a statement.

“We’re also seeing strong interest from more than a dozen additional parties to potentially serve as minority investors, creating a multi-partner model built for long-term stability and growth.

“Notably, our next chapter will make our players the majority equity holders in LIV Golf, a first for a major global sports league, and gives the League the foundation to keep growing the game worldwide.

“We anticipate finalizing terms in the coming weeks, with the goal of entering a transaction in September. In the meantime, our focus is on delivering a great week for fans and players at Bedminster and finishing the 2026 season strong.’’

Mirror U.S. Sports understands that under the proposed terms of the deal, players will take a majority equity stake in the league.

Players already own equity in their respective teams, but league equity will give them a direct financial interest in LIV's fate, incentivizing them to stay and rebuild in the face of uncertainty in the absence of Saudi billions.

Players have been prominently involved in talks with prospective investors throughout LIV's pursuit of a cash injection, particularly Bryson DeChambeau, who has been present in pitches and meetings, and he led a players-only meeting at Trump National Bedminster on Tuesday.
