Kevin Bacon is temporarily changing his name to "Kevin Bean" to help launch a new weekly plant-based initiative
The actor says his connection with animals inspired him to support the campaign encouraging people to swap meat for beans on Wednesdays
"One simple change in what you eat every Wednesday makes a difference for animals," Bacon said of the effort
Kevin Bacon is putting a new spin on his last name.
The actor, 67, is temporarily becoming Kevin "Bean" as part of a new campaign encouraging people to swap meat for beans one day a week.
Bacon unveiled the playful name change while teaming up with Humane World for Animals to launch "Beansday," an initiative that encourages participants to make the switch every Wednesday as a way to help animals, according to a press release.
In a promotional video for the campaign, Bacon fully embraces his temporary alter ego.
"You know me as Kevin Bacon, but on Wednesdays I'm Kevin Bean, because Wednesday is Beans Day, the day we swap meat for beans," Bacon says in the video.
"They're packed with protein and fiber, they keep you full longer, you save money and animals, they're just beans till you realize how many animals they spare," he continues. "Observing Beans Day is a small step and makes a big difference. Take it from me, Kevin Bean."
The campaign is particularly meaningful for Bacon, who said his relationship with animals has shaped the way he thinks about food choices.
"Over the years, I've developed a deep connection with animals. You get to know them as individuals, and it makes you reflect deeply about the food choices you make," Bacon said in a statement.

"That's why I loved the idea of Beansday. One simple change in what you eat every Wednesday makes a difference for animals. And if becoming Kevin Bean for a little while helps get people involved, I'm all in," he added.
The initiative is designed to encourage simple, weekly habits that can have a positive impact on animals, the environment and personal health, according to Humane World for Animals. The organization has launched a Beansday hub where participants can pledge to take part and find recipes from plant-based chefs and food influencers.
Kitty Block, president and CEO of Humane World for Animals, said the campaign is intended to make animal advocacy feel accessible to a wider audience.
"Simple actions—like what we put on our plate—go a long way in helping animals," Block said in a statement.
"Beansday reflects our mission to tackle the root causes of animal suffering by making it easy for anyone to take a meaningful step for animals each week," she continued. "By supporting people who choose to embrace more healthy, tasty, plant-based foods, we can also help build a better world for animals and our environment."
The organization points to the global impact of food production in explaining the campaign's goals. According to Humane World for Animals, 97.6 billion land animals and 27.9 trillion aquatic animals are killed annually for food production worldwide. The group also says animal agriculture accounts for at least 16.5% of human-induced greenhouse gas emissions.
For now, however, Bacon is keeping the message simple: one day, one swap and one very different last name.
At least on Wednesdays, he's Kevin Bean.
