Fox News host explains to Stephen Miller's wife the reason she decided to adopt overseas

Fox News host Laura Ingraham opened up about the reason why she decided to become a single mom by adopting three children overseas.
The conservative host of Fox News Channel's The Ingraham Angle sat down for an interview with the wife of White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller, Katie, on her podcast on Tuesday, August 4.
Ingraham, 63, is a single mother who has never been married, and has adopted a daughter and two sons overseas. She told Katie exactly why she adopted overseas rather than in the U.S. This comes after Fox News viewers turned on Ingraham when she defended Donald Trump over the World Cup loss.

Katie asked Ingraham on The Katie Miller podcast whether bringing children into the country legally had shaped her personal views on immigration.
"I think a lot of people think - and have said - 'Why did you go overseas to get a kid? There are all these kids here,'" the Fox News host responded.

"Well, the sad thing is, because there's so much abortion here, there aren't the kids to adopt here that there was in many decades past. Far fewer. So that's number one," she said.
"And number two, there is a need internationally for children who are abandoned, who have no one," she continued. "In a lot of countries - and Russia doesn't allow adoption anymore. Obviously, with the war, we wouldn't be doing that, but I think one of my sons is one of the last kids out of Russia."

"Children are children," Ingraham said. "Bringing them into the country legally versus putting them in a migrant caravan to be raped and trafficked and abused is something completely different. So I don't think there's no disconnect there. I certainly help my fair share of charitable endeavors, but if you can help a child in need who has no one, I think that's what it's all about."

Ingraham has a daughter, Maria, 21, whom she adopted from Guatemala, and two sons, Michael,18, and Nikolai, 16, both of whom were adopted from Russia. She noted in the episode that she speaks Spanish and Russian.
Katie shared this section of the interview on X, and viewers questioned Ingraham's claim that abortion led to fewer children being available for adoption.
"Nothing wrong with adopting internationally, but her information about American orphans and abortions is flat out wrong," one user wrote in the comment section.
Another user wrote, "You'll have to show me real proof that adoptable kids in the US are hard to find because of abortion."
According to a study published in 2023, researchers from Harvard Medical School, Bentley University, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center found that between 2000 and 2020, restricted abortion access may be associated with more children entering the U.S. foster care system.
The researchers found that fewer children were placed into foster care if they had been conceived in years when abortions were more accessible. While, according to this study, abortion access plays a role in the number of children entering foster care, it's unclear whether that hinders people's ability to adopt within the U.S., as Ingraham suggested.
The single mother of three posts about her children on social media. She recently shared a video of her and her kids dressed in white and blue for America's 250th birthday celebrations on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
