Fans of Gus G announced some exciting news to ring in the new year.

In a Thursday interview with Sportzwire Radio, the Greek heavy metal guitarist and founding member of Firewind — who has also played with Mystic Prophecy, Nightrage, Arch Enemy, Dream Evil and the late Ozzy Osbourne — revealed that he is working on two new albums: one as a solo project and another with Firewind.

The new album with Firewind is expected to be released later this year under Frontiers Label Group's new imprint BLKIIBLK, and will be the follow-up to their 2024 album, Stand United. Meanwhile, the last time Gus G released a solo project was in 2021, titled Quantum Leap.

Gus G, whose real name is Konstantinos Karamitroudis, revealed to Sportzwire Radio that he has written over 20 new songs and has "other ideas [lying] around."

"For me, it's very important to keep moving, to keep being creative, not just resting on your laurels. And, 'Okay, we had a couple of great albums, like, 20 years ago.' I mean, so what? That was cool. It's great, of course, to have a great body of work [and] a great catalog, it's important to build that," Gus G admitted. "But for me, it's also important to keep creating. I mean, right now, to be honest with you, I'm working on two albums. I just finished my new solo record. And that's gonna come out this year. And then I'm pretty much wrapping it up on the new Firewind record."

Though Gus G did not reveal an exact release date for both of these projects, he hinted that both will come out this year.

Born and raised in Greece, Gus G found his love for music thanks to his dad, who was a part-time singer who performed at Greek folk music at bars and taverns. As a fan of rock music, his dad introduced Gus G to iconic bands such as Pink Floyd, Santana and the Eagles.

When he was 18, he left Greece to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, but ended up dropping out a few weeks later to focus on a full-time music career and make his name in the metal scene. In 1998, he created Firewind with his college friends Stephen Fredrick, Brian Harris and Konstantine, and the demos they created caught the attention of Leviathan Records. In 2009, Osbourne invited Gus G to play guitar for him as a part of his backup band, and toured with the English singer on-and-off until 2017.

After touring with Osbourne for three years straight, Gus G returned to Firewind, where they released their seventh studio album, Few Against Many, and embarked on a world tour. But after their lead singer at the time, Apollo Papathanasio, quit the band, Firewind went on a hiatus in December 2013, which led Gus G to start his solo career.

The 45-year-old singer released his debut solo album, I Am The Fire, in March 2014, and released three more studio albums after that. Eventually, Firewind came back, and they put out three projects from 2017 to 2024. The band's current members include Gus G, Petros Christodoulidis, Johan Nunez and Henning Basse, who has been with the band on-and-off since 2006.

"I just wanna keep releasing music, if I feel inspired, if I feel, of course, that I have to say something as an artist. If I don't feel like I have to say something, then, yeah, it's okay — you don't have to say something all the time," he continued. "But as long as I'm feeling inspired, I will keep doing it and I will keep putting out new music if I feel it's good."
