This afternoon, a new Masters champion will be decided. Will the 2026 Masters winner be a repeat, or a first-timer? Over the course of the previous 89 competitions (this year marks the tournament’s 90th edition), there have been 56 different winners.

Horton Smith was the first Masters champion. Jack Nicklaus holds the record for most wins with six—and was the oldest winner in Masters history (his sixth win came in 1986 at age 46)—while Tiger Woods was the youngest winner, at 21. In 1961, Gary Player became the first international winner; in 2021, Hideki Matsuyama was the first Japanese player to win.
