Caroline Kennedy has appeared in a nostalgic new campaign ad that draws parallels between her late father, President John F. Kennedy, and her 33-year-old son, Jack Schlossberg, as JFK's only grandson pursues a Manhattan congressional seat.

With early voting in New York already begun, Schlossberg is in the homestretch of a competitive Democratic primary to replace the retiring Rep. Jerry Nadler in the heavily blue 12th district, which contains parts of of New York City's Upper West and Upper East Sides.

"I've been around politics for almost 70 years, so I can tell who's in it for the right reasons," Caroline, the only surviving child of JFK and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, says in the 30-second spot, which debuted on Wednesday, June 17.

Clips of her parents and uncle Ted Kennedy, the longtime U.S. senator from Massachusetts who died in 2009, are interspersed throughout the ad.

"That's why I'm so proud of my son, Jack, and I know that both my parents and his uncle Teddy would be too," the former U.S. ambassador to Australia and Japan continued. "Because Jack is fighting for healthcare, civil rights, and public service with the same courage they did. We need a new generation that still believes in the old values."

Schlossberg then appears at his mother's side, embracing her and causing her to laugh.

"I'm Jack Schlossberg, and I approve this message," the first-time candidate says into the camera. He posted the video to social media with the caption, "A special message from the greatest of all time."

Schlossberg gained notoriety in recent years for his wacky social media antics and outspoken critiques of his cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for joining forces with President Donald Trump.

But millions of dollars poured into the race to replace Nadler, and two well-funded and well-connected state lawmakers — as well as former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway's ex-husband, George Conway — are competing with Schlossberg in the Democratic primary, which will all but decide the race in deep-blue Manhattan.

While he has said on the campaign trail that he is his own man with his own ideas about the future of the country and the Democratic Party, Schlossberg has leaned into his family identity as the race reaches its close on primary day, June 23.

His name on the ballot is listed as Jack Kennedy Schlossberg. And at a rally in the district last week, multiple speakers made mention of his grandfather's work on civil rights and how the assassinated president inspired a generation of Democratic voters and activists.

A public housing tenant leader who gave a speech at the June 12 event, billed as a "dance party" at the popular New York City concert venue Terminal 5, even referred to JFK as Schlossberg's father multiple times before being corrected.

"I'm volunteering for Jack because his grandfather changed my life," a volunteer named Mary told late-night legend David Letterman, a family friend who emceed the event.

Caroline, 68, has made a handful of rare appearances on the campaign trail with her son, but is a notoriously private figure.

Schlossberg told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview last week that his mother and father, Edwin Schlossberg, are also busy helping their son-in-law, George Moran, raise their two young grandchildren following the death of their daughter, Tatitana Schlossberg, in December 2025.

"I don't understand how my mom has so much energy, but she does. Somehow she manages," Jack told PEOPLE. "Like, honestly, I don't know how she does it."
